Back in the day, people thought Italian food was “foreign”. Now it’s as American as apple pie. Only a century ago, there were no cars. Now we cannot imagine America without cars. Americans used to drink whiskey. Now they drink Cosmos and ales, too. There are Sushi restaurants all over and they are not for the Japanese. How about an America without tacos? Nah. Multiplexes? They’re new. Walmart? A recent thing. Suburbs? A 60 year-old phenomenon. End of legal segregation? Very recent.

But you know what has always been American? Immigration. Deal with it.
